Spray drying process is also the preferred method for drying from solution/suspension containing thermosensitive material, as it involves exposure to high temperature for shorter duration of time as flash drying. If the output product should be fine powder, Centrifugal Spray Dryer is available. If output product should be small particles, pressure Spray dryer or air stream spray dryer is available.

The spray drying process was adapted to battery material such as Lithium iron phosphate, lithium manganese iron phosphate, and graphene at the beginning of the 21st century with the development of the spray dryer. The method consists of the conversion of fine droplets into dried powders. The steps include atomization through a nozzle of an slurry or suspension of battery materials, followed by a rapid solvent evaporation in contact with a heated gas flow, usually air. The dried particles are then collected inside a cyclone.
